Adolescent Therapy

I am always doing that which I cannot do, in order that I may learn how to do it
— Pablo Picasso

If you are concerned about your adolescent child, I am here to help. Adolescence marks a period of tremendous change in the brain and body that can be a source of confusion and turmoil, as well as excitement and potential. Teenagers are negotiating the transition between a previous state of dependence and a growing sense of independence — a shift that affects the entire family system, often in ways that feel confusing, frustrating, or disruptive. Parents may feel an increasing sense of fear, guilt, or powerlessness in the face of such profound change.

For many families, navigating this transition benefits from extra support — someone outside the immediate family who is attuned to the teen's struggles. Many teens arrive at therapy feeling ambivalent, nervous, or unsure whether it will even help. I meet that uncertainty directly: naming it as a normal part of starting therapy, rather than something to move past quickly. From there, I build trust through asking questions, making connections among group members, and showing the teens that I'm truly listening and working to understand their experience.

I provide a safe, collaborative space where your child can explore their feelings and discover new ways of expressing themselves that lead to greater confidence, connection, and stability. I also offer support and guidance for parents navigating this volatile, often unpredictable stage. When it comes to confidentiality, I approach it case-by-case, always weighing your teen's need for a private, trusted space against their safety and wellbeing.

Please contact me for a free phone consultation, where we can discuss your child's particular needs and how I might be able to help.
